Powers Aviation Release, a Limited Edition Pot Still Whiskey, Exclusive to the Irish Whiskey Collection (Aer Rianta’s Award Winning Travel Retail Store). Bonded on the 20th of November 2000, this Exclusive Pot Still bottling was released in celebration of Dublin Airports 75th Anniversary this year and is limited to only 176 bottles, The Powers Aviation Release embodies the brand’s long association with the airline industry. Since the 1940’s, the Powers family worked in partnership with Aer Rianta to allow transatlantic passengers to purchase bottles at duty free prices. They had previously done this for liner passengers and extended the facility to enable all air travellers to bring a bottle of Powers to their home country. In Aviation Release, Powers have produced a heavy Pot Still style distillate, in the 1940’s whiskey making style. It is a single cask whiskey, matured entirely in bourbon barrels to create a robust and powerful spiciness with a touch of sweet honeycomb and earthy leather.

Dublin Airport opened on Friday January 19, 1940 and at 9am, the very first commercial flight, an Aer Lingus Lockheed 14 aircraft, departed for Liverpool. The airport was originally known as Collinstown Airport, as the site was located in the townland of Collinstown, north of Dublin city centre. Work on the airport began in 1937 as more land was acquired and site clearance commenced for the grass runways. Construction of the new terminal building started in the summer of 1938. The architect of the terminal was Desmond FitzGerald, an elder brother of former Taoiseach, Dr Garret FitzGerald. The curved building, which was designed to cater for just 100,000 passengers a year and its tiered structure echoed the lines of a great ocean liner and won many architectural awards for its design.

This exclusive single cask is limited to 176 bottles. Bottled at 46% ABV | Non chill filtered
